The Human Resources Department deals with all aspects of recruitment and selection; attendance management; employee relations matters and general HR queries.

Occupational Health

Occupational Health is an advisory service, providing advice to both staff and the employer. The Occupational Health service operates under strict confidentiality rules.

ASC

ASC offers confidential and impartial services for all: College learners on full-time, part-time and apprenticeships. People considering study as one of their options.

Counselling

During difficult times, the Counselling Service continues to operate to provide telephone help and support to staff.

You can self-refer to the service by emailing bev.baldasera@newdur.ac.uk (please provide your name and payroll number and preferred contact information e.g. email work or home, and a contact telephone number).

Bev will contact you to arrange a confidential 30 minute telephone appointment. Bev will attempt to see people as soon as possible and she will allocate individuals to her next available appointment. In the interim there are many useful websites that can help with self- care and well-being:

Making Mental Health everybody's business

Mental health is everybody’s business but often it can be difficult to know what support and services are available for children, young people and their families. Using the Thrive Framework, this document aims to help practitioners navigate the system, identify what resources are available and how to access them in line with the appropriate level of need.

Getting Advice for Over 18 Year Old's

Mind

Mind provide information and support for those living with or supporting someone with a mental health problem. They have information on conditions, treatment options, advice on support and services and tips for everyday living.

Headspace

Online resource that supports with a range of issues including stress, sleep and anxiety.

Durham Locate

Durham Locate is the place to find information about adult care and support in County Durham. There is a search facility to enable users to find information about leisure and community activities, products and services to help at home, to help people stay healthy, and enable them to live their life the way they want.

Rethink Mental Illness

Provide advice and information including about living with mental illness and rights and restrictions. They also provide advice and information for carers and a range of advocacy services.

Durham Cree

The CREE is a range of projects set up to help reduce social isolation. Based on the ‘Men’s Sheds’ idea, there are also groups set up for women and young people.

Recovery College Online

The Recovery College Online provides a range of online mental health educational course and resources. The content has been developed by people with experience of mental illness.

Anxiety UK

Support for those living with anxiety-based depression by providing information, support and understanding.
